Focusing on 1/24th scale (half inch scale)

The word "change" and an arrow made out of clouds on a beautiful clear blue sky (apart from the clouds of course!). Rolling green fields below. Beautiful.

I never know whether to call it 1:24, 1/24th, or half-inch scale. It seems to depend on who you ask! Honestly, it’s an SEO nightmare! 😅

For those who’ve followed me since the early days of icklebits (yes, over 20 years ago!), you’ll remember I worked exclusively in 12th scale. The funny thing is, despite making a gazillion miniatures over the years, I’ve never owned a proper dolls’ house—not even a roombox! Can you believe it? 😂

Recently, I noticed these adorable little kits popping up on Amazon and Shein (or is it Shien? I never get it right!). They’re much smaller than what I’m used to, but curiosity got the better of me, and I bought one. Well, let’s just say that opened a whole new can of worms!

Turns out, 24th scale is a lot more expensive than 12th scale, and finding tutorials is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Most of what I found were old-fashioned builds on YouTube, and I much prefer having pictures so I can go at my own pace without all the pausing and rewinding. But the kicker? Everything seems aimed at last century. I want modern!

That’s when it hit me—surely I’m not the only one discovering these cheap and tiny kits! The new generation of miniaturists must be finding them too, right? So, I’ve decided to make the switch. 24th scale, here we come! I’m going to build this kit (attempting to film it, wish me luck!), and then we can decorate it together. How does that sound? 😄✨
